Mazza & Sons, a company specializing in waste and recycling services in New Jersey, was officially incorporated in 1964. Since its incorporation, the family-owned and operated business has grown and adapted to the evolving needs of the waste management industry.

Moved to Tinton Falls
In 1981, Mazza & Sons moved to 3230 Shafto Road in Tinton Falls, NJ 07753. This location still serves as the central hub for their recycling and waste management services in the region.

Transfer station opens
Mazza opened a transfer station at 3230 Shafto Road in Tinton Falls in 2001. The transfer station can handle up to 1,100 tons of debris per day. This facility is where waste materials are temporarily held before being transported to recycling centers or landfills.

Mazza Scrap Recycling opens
In 2013, the Mazza family opened a scrap metal recycling facility in Neptune, NJ. Scrap metal recyclers process and recover recyclable metal materials from discarded items and structures. 1 They sort, clean, and prepare the metal, often melting it down for reuse in manufacturing new goods, which helps conserve energy and reduces landfill waste. Today, the scrap metal operations still runs at 3230 Shafto Road in Tinton Falls, NJ.

Mazza Mulch opens
Mazza Mulch Inc. was established in 2014, operating from the Tinton Falls facility. They manufacture high-quality landscape products such as mulch, compost, and topsoil, utilizing recycled natural and organic materials.

Collection Division begins
Mazza began their collection operations with 1 used truck and a few roll-off containers. With almost 50 trucks and thousands of containers today, Mazza Recycling Services offers comprehensive waste collection services, including roll-off dumpster rentals for various projects and commercial trash and recycling collection. They provide a range of container sizes to meet different customer needs, ensuring efficient and environmentally responsible waste removal.

Mazza Recycling services acquires MSI
In 2017, Dominick J. Mazza, Jr. and James F. Mazza, Jr. bought the facility at Shafto Road, formerly called Mazza and Sons, Inc. from their fathers.

Paper and plastic, commercial ss recycling
In 2017, Mazza began a small transload operation in which they recycled various paper, plastics, and commercial single stream grades. This sparked the conversation about the need for a residential single stream recycling processing facility in their community.

Mazza MRF opens
In 2020, Mazza began and completed construction on their Material Recovery Facility in Tinton Falls, NJ. This facility processes and sorts recyclable materials like paper, plastic, metal, and glass, playing a vital role in diverting waste from landfills and promoting recycling.

Mazza bagger opens
In 2022, Mazza’s mulch bagging facility opened. A mulch bagging facility processes and packages mulch for distribution and sale. Mazza Mulch, for example, uses a fully automated bagging line to produce thousands of bags of mulch per day, which are then sold to local flower farms and nurseries. Mazza also offers co-packing for other brands, in addition to their own private label.

Acquired Liberty
Mazza Recycling acquired Liberty Waste & Recycling of Moorestown, New Jersey in 2024. Today, Liberty operates as a division of Mazza Recycling out of Southern Jersey and parts of Philadelphia.

Acquired bull recycling
Mazza Recycling acquired Berlin, New Jersey-based Bull Waste & Recycling. Bull was acquired from the Mount Group, also based in Berlin.

Acquired Philadelphia transfer station
Mazza Acquires Transfer Station in Philadelphia: In 2025, Mazza Recycling Services acquired a transfer station in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This acquisition, operating as Liberty Transfer Station, LLC, expands their service area and allows for more efficient waste processing, reduction of transportation times, and improved resource recovery in the Greater Philadelphia and Delaware Valley regions.

Adding sorting line system
Mazza Recycling adds sorting line to transfer station: In 2025, Mazza Recycling Services selected Van Dyk to build their newest C&D plant in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. The system will feature shredders, magnets, Lubo screens and optical sorters to recover wood from mixed construction and demolition waste. The TOMRA optical sorters will be equipped with GAINnext artificial intelligence and Deep Laiser recognition for optimal sortation of wood.
